Akilah S. Richards - that is the name of the dynamic woman I came across by chance during the Sweet Auburn Festival on Saturday, May 10th.
As Akilah talked to us about the community gardens being featured during the festival, the photographer in me immediately mentally placed her as a good subject for my Naturally You project. I explained the project to her, and was pleasantly surprised when she countered with an invitation for me to be the special guest photographer at her Radical Self-Expression Summit. An excerpt of a description of the term " Radical Self-Expression" from her site:
The process of Radical Self-Expression begins when you recognize that your real voice has been substituted for an inauthentic version of yourself in an area of your life. Once that muted space is identified, the process evolves into the exploration of the causes and consequences of living in those muted spaces. The final step in the process involves the shift into your commitment to changing your experience in those spaces from muted to fully expressed. It is practiced through the exploration of your spiritual strengtheners; the words, actions, and feelings that are most aligned with who you are and how you prefer to live and to feel.
I am truly excited to be a part of this summit, and invite anyone else who would like more info or would like to attend to visit her website: http://www.radicalselfie.com/live/. The Radical Self-Expression Summit will be held on June 14th, 4pm-8pm at Tongue & Groove. Many thanks go out to Akilah for the invite and opportunity!
