In light of everything that has been happening in this country - all of the divisiveness, strained personal relationships, and racial tension - I allowed myself to take a step back from the "in-your-face" constantly televised drama and went to my first Pow Wow in close to 10 years. This particular Pow Wow was the annual Indian Festival & Pow Wow held at Stone Mountain Park.
While there, my thoughts naturally drifted to the situation in Standing Rock, ND where the indigenous people are fighting to protect not only their sacred lands, but their water. Much of this plight has slipped under the radar due to constant coverage of this election cycle, but I proudly stand with those at Standing Rock.
The beauty of this Pow Wow is the intertribal aspect. Tribes from across the US and Central America partake in the festivities; a show of unity that I wish the rest of the country could demonstrate.
Please consider supporting those who are trying to protect their sacred land. More info can be found at http://standwithstandingrock.net. Meanwhile, be kind to one another.
